Shwmai. Hello. I have thought of a great idea that may well highlight some of the major problems that we face In Merthyr Tydfil every day.

I am still sorting out the finer features but the Our Merthyr Campaign will be on youtube shortly! Not only will I be addressing the town and looking at problems but I am hoping to get hold of a digital camera and going out to places like Gelli-Deg which I mentioned in an earlier post to show You the residents and of course councillors and maybe even Assembly members and AM Candidates.

I am hoping that this will highlight the problems in great depth and make the Council start thinking about making a move on problems that concern everyone within the town.

Hwyl! Marc

Bring down the Bus prices March 26, 2007

Shwmai. Hello. Recently I have noticed that the bus prices in Merthyr are enough to give you a heart attack. Its only one route that I have noticed it on at the moment which is Twynycarmel although im thinking that other routes will be similar.

When I travelled up to Twyncarmel with Stagecoach last week I needed to purchase a return ticket which would allow me to get back into Merthyr after visiting my Brother. To my horror I noticed that Stagecoach charged £2.50 return to Twyncarmel and have to say that this can not keep happening. You may ask why am I moaning about that? well following some research, since I study in Pontypridd I usually take the train down which is only £2.80 Return to Merthyr from Pontypridd or £1.80 single fare. I mean think about it logically Merthyr-Twyncarmel roughly 3 miles whereas Merthyr-Pontypridd is around about 15-19 miles.

Can people really afford the bus prices in Merthyr? I mean in the past we have been listed in the top 10 worse places to live in the United Kingdom plus some people have great difficulty finding jobs. It is time to make a difference regarding transport in Merthyr as our pockets are getting dried out just trying to get 2 miles down the road. Thankfully the Council do provide bus passes to Elderly residents in the town as I do not know how they would cope with this problem.

As I have said Before I need your help. Before I actually send an e-mail to Stagecoach regarding prices and talking with Councillers I need to Know how people feel about this topic.

E-mail me on ourmerthyrcampaign@yahoo.co.uk

Hello again if you are new please view my first post to understand what is going on.

In this post I’m going to discuss the topic of Gellideg estate, which is about half a mile from Cyfarthfa Retail Park. Now regularly I visit my brother who lives in Twyncarmel and the bus goes through this estate. Now If I am going to be honest Im appalled with how the area is treated and the lack of facilities that there is to offer. I am aware that there are a lot of teenagers living in the area and this makes me dumbstruck to why there are no recreational facilites in the area. Yes I know what the councils response would be, “there is a JJB Gym just down the road” and yes this is true however not everyone can afford these prices because being honest again they are a bit high even for me!
Also upon walking through the area as well I have noticed empty beer cans and broken glass and Im thinking why? there is a school located on the estate and even though it is surrounded by a fence The children still need to come out after school and sometimes run on ahead even though parents are watching them they still pick things up. I mean think about it logically they are going to cut themselves if glass is left about. There should be CCTV Cameras fitted and on patrol police with something like a £50.00 fine for those who drop litter or smash glass.
Back to the area in General you want to pick something Quick up for tea although you need to pay £2.70 for a return ticket to Merthyr town centre in order to get it as there are only four shops in the area not to mention that the town is about 2 miles away its taking too much time. I believe this is one of the major areas in Merthyr that should be sorted. Il speak again soon. Thanks

Hello there and welcome to the “Our Merthyr” Blog page! My name is Marc Evans and I am the owner of this blog. For too long have the residents of Merthyr Tydfil taken the back seat and have been controlled by a contradicting Council who promise to do things but then go behind our backs and deny that any request has been made for an improvement. An example for this who think this is not happening? Ok here it goes. Our roads. The council have told us for years that they are sorting the pothole problems in Merthyr yet there are a number of accidents per year because of them. The council have no desire whatsoever to fix this problem although hopefully with your help we can sort this problem making the town a better place for all of us. Next item I would like to bring up is the facilities in Merthyr. Ok so they are getting better but can some people please back me up in getting things done a little bit faster? I mean things are happening although they are taking two to three years to get small items done. Merthyr Village? Two years in the planning still nothing! Rhydycar Improvement? What Improvement? Finally the retail project up near Gellideg/Twyncarmel is supposed to be finished this summer yet all they seem to have done is move dirt around. We need to get the Council moving a bit faster. That is my aim anyway and with your help we can make a difference. And also I want to try and help make a difference to local communities in Merthyr. Its not just Merthyr. Its Our Merthyr!
